What is Reiki Energy Healing

Thousands of years ago, our ancestors had understood the concept of Energy Healing or ‘Energy Work’ (also called Energy medicine), as referred by modern Science. It is a well-known fact that all things are infused with energy, including human body. Our body is made up of trillions of cells. Even Science has acknowledged the presence of energy in and around our body. Kirlian photography had been developed in the 1930s that can capture a visual evidence of this energy presence. Photography by Kirlian can help us see the energy emanating from the body. It can also show us how this energy flow varies with tension, feelings, emotions etc., specifically showing the energy from the hand.

We also know that when the flow of energy in the body decreases, it feels sick. In other words, when our energy is drained and imbalanced or its flow is disrupted by injury, stress or illness etc., we feel discomfort and more disease in our physical body. When this energy is restored and balanced, it starts to flow more freely, thus the natural healing powers of our body are given a 'jump-start' and used for self-healing. Additionally, some practitioners have stated that the use of energy therapy can also enhance the healing process. Dr Harold Burr from Yale had done research in 1930, which showed that disease can be identified in the energy field before real symptoms arise and can be altered by altering the energy field's vibrational frequency. This theory was not well accepted at that time but is becoming more widely recognized at present.

While Reiki is essentially a 'hands-on' technique of healing, it is done with a softer touch than any other healing modality. Sometimes a practitioner or a healer does not even touch the body of the recipient, rather he/ she keeps his or her hands five to six inches above the recipient’s body. The practitioner’s hands are positioned on or above energy centers on the head, neck, chest, abdomen, legs, and feet, while the recipient lies down or is in a seating position with full clothes on, though the shoes and jewelry have to be removed. The patient may feel a little hot or cold, a gentle tingling sensation, or just deep relaxation as energy is transferred to the body. Some people may feel nothing, but it does not mean healing hasn't worked, because Reiki energy still works for the highest and greatest good of the recipient, no matter whether you're feeling it or not. Reiki Healing can be performed over a distance, too. Reiki's idea that the energies around us will function efficiently through intention is generally accepted. Though it might be confusing to some people, this is how it works. This is used not only to heal someone at various levels (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) but also to ensure a more comfortable transition for those in the final stages of life.

Various work has shown that not only can energy healing provide deep relaxation, it can also reduce muscle stress and pain, and accelerate wound healing. Reiki energy healing can be effective in various illness, pre and post-operative conditions and in injuries. It is not always necessary to believe in the process, but if the receiver is open to receiving Reiki healing, he or she would always experience its benefits in due course.

Although Reiki Energy Healing is quite beneficial in almost every aspect of physical illness or discomfort, it should never be confused as a medical aid alternative. When the patient is under some medication or is required to undergo a medical treatment or operation, he should always follow the advice of his doctor or medical practitioner. In the physical body Reiki never treat or recommend any illness or disease. Therefore it is strongly recommended to seek advice from the doctor in any severe illness or conditions.
